Last week we visited my parents and other family in northwest Indiana and spent a few days camping with my parents in Michigan. It was Megan's first camping trip, and she did great, except for the first night when it was so cold she couldn't sleep until I brought her into my sleeping bag with me.
On the way up to my parents' house, we made a brief stop in Springfield, Illinois, to see the Lincoln Library and Museum. We didn't have time to actually go into the museum, but Josh and I decided to plan a day trip there sometime in the future so he can see if it's a good place to take his students on a field trip.
Here's Megan trying on a "future president" hat and an old-fashioned bonnet in the museum's gift shop.
Before leaving Springfield to continue our trip to Indiana, we enjoyed a lunch buffet at this seafood restaurant. We just happened to pass it on our way back to the interstate, and Josh and I are both big seafood fans. We couldn't resist, especially when the buffet was only $6.50 per person. They had a cheesy crab dish that was pretty tasty, along with shrimp cocktail, various kinds of fried and baked fish, fried chicken, lasagna, and lots of other stuff.
Here we are at the Binder Park Zoo in Michigan (I think it was in Battle Creek?).
One of the highlights of our zoo visit was when Megan got to feed the giraffes. She was a little unsure about it all, but Josh helped her out.
Thinking after feeding the giraffes ...
Petting the llama ...
We thought this llama had funny teeth. Not sure if all llamas have teeth like this.
Peacocks roamed everywhere in the zoo, and some were sitting on top of this restaurant.
Giant turtles ...
Here we all are at an airshow in Battle Creek, Michigan, on the Fourth of July.
Megan fell asleep on Josh.
The Thunderbirds ... the highlight of the airshow.
It was a good trip, and we arrived home yesterday evening. We've done a lot of traveling over the last few weeks and are now looking forward to being home for a while.
